Rolfing can be a very important part of the recovery process post surgery. If you've had back surgery, other muscles and tissues in your body are going to have to compensate for the surgically repaired tissue as it recovers. The body is wonderful at compensating when necessary but isn't as great at letting go of those compensation patterns when they're no longer needed. These new patterns can, if held for a long period of time, overwork tissues and create mis-alignments that might not be beneficial for long term health and can even increase extra wear and tear. Rolfing can help undo compensation patterns and bring balance back to the tissues.

I didn't know there could be so much promise for back pain other than a chiropractor. For those of us a little squeamish on having our necks and bodies all twisted for adjustments, this seems like a great modality. Thanks for the info Christopher. Can Rolfing also help with back pain after surgery has already taken place?
